There are many options for hikes or easy walks around Antibes and up into the mountains. In the Parc Nature Régional des Préalpes d'Azure there are mountain routes such as the Croix de Verse and small towns like the nearby Gréolieres. The Plateau de Saint Barnabé also has several routes. Only slightly farther away are the spectacular Gorges du Verdon and the Calanques by Marseilles.
Relax at Plage de la Salis, Plage de la Gravette, or explore water sports like paddleboarding and snorkeling along Cap d'Antibes. It is possible to rent windsurfing and other gear in Cannes, and there are several spots for it along the coast.
There are also many more options to have fun in the Provence area. For example, spectacular canyoning can be found all around the area. Paragliding is popular in the hills and right on the coast near Monaco. A bit further afield, Gourdon is reknowned for its flying conditions. Truly world class rock climbing on featured limestone can be found in Ceuse, Verdon, the Calanques, near Avignon, and elsewhere.
The southern tip of the Alps extends all the way to Antibes, and there are spectacular mountains to enjoy within a relatively short drive. The Gorges du Cians offer deep red slot canyons less than an hour drive from Nice, and medieval hilltop villages are scattered all around - and more here. Most of this area falls within the Parc National de Mercantour, a 67,900 Ha national park of alpine landscapes. Slightly to the east within the park, the main ridge of the Alps forms the border between France and Italy and offers high alpine scenery and activities. Several routes are outlined here, including a tour of ancient hilltop villages and several big peak bagging loops. The highest peak is the Cime de Gélas (3143m) with some straightforward routes up, while the Cime de la Malédie has more involved climbing routes on amazing rock - see a short video of the Traversée des Arêtes here. Note, the high mountains may still be quite snowy in late April.
